I was going to order phb 2024 and will definitely not buy it until this issue is resolved with a good compromise to existing buyers who already invested in the platform.
Otherwise, why would I buy this product when I will surely be blocked out of my content in a couple of years?
Yeah, I run 6 campaigns and a LOT of one-shot modules. Our community of 55 has decided that as soon as this garbage drops and they force me to homebrew all of our spells and magic items, we're all dumping our subscriptions and going over to Roll-20. This is insane. Absolutely insane.
I've also cancelled my subscription due to this miscarriage of content management, I encourage everyone else to do so as well.
Please DnDBeyond, keep the old spells & magic items available as legacy, or else accept that the decision to excise content your users paid for makes you greedy charlatans.
I usually buy both hard copy and digital gaming content, as we have some local players who are new to the game. Digital character creation is somewhat easier, and the online search is pretty handy for them. We still use paper character sheets for those who prefer that.
We're moving to another platform. Even Roll20 has gotten a little better lately, and I have both homebrew and a campaign ready to kick off there again. They need to be able to switch back to the legacy content efficiently because our group wasn't planning on updating for about another 10-12 months.
Forced changes are definitely bad business in my eyes as well.
I've got two campaigns with 8 people between them, and we've already migrated over to Foundry VTT as of our last session. All I plan on using D&D Beyond for is to digitally reference the books I've purchased, and we don't need an active subscription to access previously purchased content.

I agree with everyone here. I just canceled my subscription and told them it is because I will not support my content being deleted and them trying to force people to buy new content.
The ideal situation is a sitewide toggle with three options: 2024 only (no Legacy visible), 2014 only (no 2024 visible), and mix and match (the hellscape that exists right now).
They walked it back, we're keeping our paid for content.

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.

They say that, but the Spells search (for example) shows exactly zero spells when Class:Cleric and Tag:Legacy are toggled on (or cleric+phb2014). That seems like they've chosen to make their tools useless to anyone not migrating to 2024.

I mentioned this in a different thread you posted this issue in, but for the edification of others this is likely due to an (understandable) error in your search parameters.
The Cleric under Core Rules in the search parameter refers to the 5.5 cleric class. Whereas to get the 5.0 cleric you need to scroll down further and select the Cleric under Legacy. The site treats those like two totally separate classes.
Compare 5.0 guidance to 5.5 guidance and you'll notice the 5.0 guidance lists its available classes as Cleric and Druid whereas the 5.5 guidance lists its available classes as Cleric, Druid, Cleric, and Druid. Because the 5.0 is just tagging the 5.0 Cleric and Druid whereas the 5.5 is tagging both the 5.0 and 5.5 versions of the classes.
So if you search the 5.0 PHB for 5.5 Cleric spells, nothing will turn up. Again, very easy error to make given it's not intuitive that you have to select Cleric instead of Cleric, but that's the cause of the issue.

I agree this is a mistake. It should be an option at the character level for sure, and campaign level ideally as well.
Hate to say it but Roll 20 just made a case for them being a better place to buy content from.

The only reason I switched to 5e was DnD Beyond. If they force this, I will cancel my subscription and find other resources, possibly go back to 3.5
