I was going to claim the free adventure, but this made me take two steps back. I don’t think it is correct, nor relevant, to ask for address and credit card information for a free purchase.
100% agree. This is the 5th or 6th free adventure that has been released on Beyond and it is the first one to require a credit card. I won't be getting it. Which is too bad, I have enjoyed the previous similar offerings.
If they could fix this I would love to get the adventure. Or better yet, just add all the free content to every Beyond account without requiring any additional steps on the part of the account holder. WotC already changes the purchased content without recourse or notice. This should not be difficult.
I see why they might not automatically add it - some people might want only specific things when they click Sources. But definitely seems off to ask for a credit card for a free item.
I was quite appalled by this, but luckily I could use my PayPal.
I really don’t understand for a second why this has to be bought like this, unlike other one shots you can just claim, like the Vecna thing a while back…
I just tried to claim this adventure and was surprised to see it ask for shipping and payment info, since all the other freebies I've claimed in the past have not. While I have payment info (including Paypal) I can use, I am choosing not to because I disagree with this practice as well. First the character creator debacle with new vs old rules and now this? What's going on at WOTC? :/
PS. I don't mean to sound ungrateful for all the freebies they have put out, I just don't don't understand why they changed how they do it. An explanation would be greatly appreciated.
We get what we accept, plenty of other ttrpg's out there owned by small businesses and not "evil corporations". All we have to do is stop using/buying wotc's crap.
Why would you offer something as a free adventure - but still request a credit card?
There should be logic in the request to say if the total is 0.00 - to bypass requesting a credit card.
Hold Back the Dead (https://marketplace.dndbeyond.com/category/DB0000157) is what I mean.

Guess there is no free adventure for me 😅

I can't even manage to check out period, I click next at checkout and it scrolls back up, doing nothing.
