Although tooltips and formatting in all text fields would be awesome, it looks like most of what you would use it for is companion animals and there is a companion animal update coming Soon™.

Well, That was just an example.
I like well formatted notes, and frankly a single text-area equivalent field doesn't do it for me. Just put this same forum editor control there instead of turning a DIV into an editor :)

Playtesting Fugare Draconis, an epic tale of adventure, loss, and redemption
I like to do extensive note taking and honestly being able to do some simple formatting for the note section especially in the backstory would make life much easier
For my Circle of the Moon druid, I'm using OTHER NOTES section to list various wild form shapes with ability summaries, as well as notes on where/when the beast was seen. All entries are organized by character level, as I've seen creatures I can't yet transform into. Being able to markup (bold, italics, underline) various pieces of information or sections would be extremely useful. I'd even love to have the ability to indent entire paragraphs and add web links (to DDB pages as well as external sites).
I was originally trying to customize the "Wild Shape" action and add this information to the "Notes" field there, but that's even more painful to work with, as that field is just a single line, and newline characters and other whitespace tends to get removed. Everything just becomes a huge blob of unreadable text.
I'd love this as I just started playing an Artificer and am using my notes section to keep track of descriptions of how I'm using tools to cast spells (as described in The Magic of Artifice section). Formatting would make the list a lot easier to read.
Bumping this because our DM wants us to be writing stuff down about our characters and the world for reference and not being able to break up the paragraphs of text is making it much harder.
Significantly lacking is the ability to bold and italicize and link spells bless
Frankly since it's internal to the character it'd be great to be able to add links to anything, eternal sights or anything.
Example: This is what I have in my "Other" notes for my Ranger, it's pretty ugly and difficult to read at a glance.
I would much rather be able to read it like this:

I would also very much appreciate being able to format the text of my notes.

The forum supports tooltips. It would be great if this functionality was supported in the various NOTES fields on the DDB character sheets: https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/homebrew-house-rules/9811-how-to-add-tooltips
Then I wouldn't even have to include a feature summary for each creature, I could just do things like Giant Bat or Wolf.

If I can do this on the forum, why can't I do it in the Notes?
This would be extremely useful

There's a browser extension, but it hasn't been updated in a while. If you understand HTML, you could edit it to work again:
