There is NO option to use an e-mail address and username/password for another site, you MUST go through one of those portals. I admit I no longer remember how sign-up worked when I made my account, but have those only ever been the only possible ways to sign up to this site, since the very beginning?
Was it at some point in the past possible for you to register an an D&D Beyond account with a different e-mail address which was not one of those four portals, like how nearly every single other site has worked since forever? I have an e-mail address I use for a bunch of things which is none of those 4, and if I had registered my D&D Beyond account with one of those instead of Google, I would have apparently just lost all access to my account because there's no option to use a different way to log in.

I thought "Sign in with Wizards" *was* the only username/password thing since at least since WOTC took over.
Also, "how every site has worked forever" is like saying "Why can't I ride a horse along the highway, that's how we've done it forever". OAuth is superior specifically because it removes a thousand hackable password stores, and people who fail to properly use different passwords on each site. You might be good at it, but the vast majority of people use the same password for their bank account as their tumblr account.
Right now the login screen only has four options:

There's never been a direct login. It's always been OAuth based.
If you have reason to worry about losing access to the account you use, you can set up authentication with more than one.
It started as Twitch only. Then added Google and shortly after Apple. Wizards is the most recent addition.
