I was just reading the 2014 Player's Handbook on D&DBeyond, and I noticed when I hover over the highlighted links for various things, the 2024 rules pop up, not the 2014 rules. Specifically, I was looking at the Wood Elf's "Mask of the Wild". When I hover over the "hide" link, the 2024 rules for hiding pop up. Is this standard practice now? To me, if I am reading the 2014 books, obviously I want the 2014 rules to be referenced. Can anyone shed light on this? I have nothng against the 2024 rules, but I am not ready to move on to them yet.
On a totally related note, if my suspicions are true about all links pointing to the 2024 rules, I may consider downgrading to the free D&DBeyond subscription. If I do that, will I lose access to all of my purchases, or will I still be able to pull them up on D&DBeyond for reference?
I can't answer your first question, but I can tell you that the books you've purchased have nothing to do with your subscription. You don't need to be subscribed to purchase books, and deactivating your subscription won't take away any books you've purchased.
Thanks for your reply! So I've done a bit more investigating. Some links point to the 2024 rule, some point to the 2014 rule, and some point to the 2024 rule with the "Legacy" rule also shown (like for conditions).
If I had to guess, I'd bet that they just did a sweeping replacement of hyperlinks on the site for a bunch of main actions that didn't exclude the 2014 PHB's links. Technically it should point to the Combat chapter of the 2014 PHB for that, but it doesn't.
