I'd like to start by saying that I'm not affiliated with QBIT in any way other than as a fan of their app. That being said, you guys should look at them if you wanted to have an encounter builder/initiative tracker/battle map feature, because their app, Encounter+, does all three, and in my experience it does all three exceptionally well. I only recently discovered they have the battle map feature at all, and I haven't purchased the unlock for it yet. That being said, I can access the blank grid with creature sizes, and it works very well. My only complaint would be to have a DM mode, where I can hide the stats I don't my players to see, such as AC and HP. I'd also love a streaming mode, where I can share just the battle map as a shared screen, among other things, such as an online mode, where you can allow your players to move their characters on their turn only. Other than that, it's a solid app. If you were to acquire them, you could then unlock purchased content on the app, and even access your characters, or even have your DM access those characters, for encounter building. It would be an absolutely amazing tool for running AL, or even just the adventure books at home, because you could load the maps in the app with ease, and adding creatures, PCs, and NPCs is already a breeze. Anyway, I suggest that you guys check them out. It's a great app, and would be a perfect way to greatly expand D&D Beyond on a whole new level that neither side can currently achieve on their own.
