I'm not saying email notifications aren't broken. Just that "Dropdown menus" and "Email notifications" are a fair distance apart.
The drop-down menus didn't really help, because now I can't look at the five most recent notifications (Which still isn't that bad)

I agree. The previous one was working fine. I really don't think it needed to be changed. The new one feels more dystopian and "corporate" to me as well, which makes me not want to use it.
