It should be a larger button on the homepage (instead of adverts for a bunch of things I already own?) but aside from that, good job.
Good UX would be remembering which tab I care more about. I know you want to sell me things, but usually when I go to the library I'm looking for a book I already own, not one I want to pay an extremely inflated price for. Please stop defaulting to 'all' (this is mainly aimed at the marketing department.)
Please let me set my defaults.
It's a step in the right direction though, maybe you guys could sort out the homepage next?
Thanks for the feedback! What are your thoughts on the homepage?
No problem. just some things in brief:
* Launch (while logged in): * Advert to build a character, of which I already have many. * Advert to use Maps VTT, which I already have. * Advert to purchase Eberron books, which I already own. * Advert to purchase FR books, which I have both physically and digitally.
* Scroll: * Use our mobile app. I already have this, and use it weekly.
* Scroll: * News, first interesting and relevant bit of content, hidden by default from user.
* Scroll: * Advert, buy partner content, even that you already own.
* Scroll: * First bit of directly-useful content, select My Characters, My Campaigns.
* Scroll: * Advert, for tiers of subscription I already have.
* Scroll: * Advert, buy more stuff that we can forget you already have (currently showing everything I already own.)
* Bottom: * Create an Account (I'm logged in, I have an account, and why is this at the bottom of the page?)
---
Aside from seven adverts for things I already own, there's nothing immediately useful on the homepage. Navigating it without being logged in gives you the exact same experience.
The actual things that people come to the site for, i.e. playing Dungeons & Dragons, is buried, which is crazy to me. I know businesses are there to make money, but you literally can't make more money off me by trying to sell me something I already own.
The homepage feels like it was designed by a marketing team who didn't understand what they were selling, or to whom. It feels like it was presented in a Figma workshop as a first pass and just accepted as 'good enough' without stopping to consider if it had any actual value to the paying userbase (or even to the non-paying.)
The bar at the top is also oddly disconnected in terms of design language from the rest of the page. The top of the site is 2016~ and the rest of the page is several years disconnected.
In contrast to the above, the Library view does exactly what I need it to (except for it showing me things I don't own by default, I'm never buying the Critical Role books, please stop showing them to me.) It's like it was designed by two completely different teams, or two people who hate each other and refuse to spend times in meetings that could be fistfights.
---
Please consider that when I load up D&D Beyond, I want to play Dungeons & Dragons, I do not want to throw my wallet at the screen, I only do that when I get startled by my magically reappearing wallet from 2010.
---
I would like to load up D&D Beyond, go straight to my characters, maybe look up a spell, or look at my table's characters in my campaign. I like news, but it's secondary, and I only really care about sales when things are actually on sale.
Right now, you've got worse UX than sites I can't name because they're basically piracy. Your main competition here is free and you're doing everything in your power to incentivise people who know that... badly. Piracy is a service problem, as they say.
