What you seem to be confusing somehow is that, while the Maps VTT is fully capable of rendering the map, that doesn't mean the design team behind the book designed the grid with the VTT in mind. And really, there's no reason they should have to. They felt a 10' grid suited the map better, that's all it really comes down to. The team behind the books isn't the same as the team behind Maps VTT.
The book does not have player maps in them, the player maps where made specifically for the digital content. This excuse doesn't work
It has the regular maps, though, and the player maps are just the regular maps minus a few markers. What you're actually expecting from them is to make new maps with a different scale than what shows up in the book.
What I'm actually expecting is a billion dollar corporation that has created the rules around a 5' grid, that created a vtt based around that same 5' grid to actually make the digital maps in a 5' grid or at the very least give the ability for me to add a 5' grid overlay in maps.. you know like every other vtt out there allows you to do.
The rules are built around theater of the mind. Grids are an optional rule.

You dont need a player map for theater of the mind. Hope you are trolling at this point because that reply is really something..

I just bolded the part I was replying to. Keep track of the things you say.
The player map, as stated already, makes zero changes to the way the map functions on a grid. There's no reason for it to.

The bolded part that you replied to doesn't help.
This is a topic about the Maps vtt and the digital player maps. You getting confused on the topic and bringing up theater of the mind when that has nothing to do with anything is not helpful.
You saying the player maps make zero changes to the way the map functions on a grid is also not helpful because im not asking for the map functions to change. Im asking for a 5' grid.. thats it.
Adding in a 5' grid overlay in maps vtt will solve my problem, and also protect your game. When you are playing theater of the mind then your player map that you will never use will have the exact same 10' grid that your DM map has, that way you and your players wont get confused with a map you will never look at or use. Everyone wins.
I wonder if you could just overlay a 5ft grid over the old map?
Yes it would be very easy if the maps vtt had that as an option. Roll 20, fantasy grounds, pretty much any other vtt out there has that as an option.
I have arkenforge, which is a in person battle map software, it displays the map on a tv built into a table, or a projector shining down on the table. Have used this for years, we use minis on the map and its great. It also has a simple grid system that can be displayed over the map.
The problem is that one of my long time players is moving pretty far, so because arkenforge has no online capabilities, and because we have been using dndbeyond for years I tried the maps vtt so he could join us remotely.
Unfortunately maps vtt is not very good. Should of just ditched out on dndbeyond and committed to fantasy grounds when he first moved.
