I’m the owner of a Christian D&D community/server, and I recently tried posting LFG/recruitment messages in the D&D Beyond Discord Server for a Christian-focused D&D group.
The messages were removed, and I’m trying to understand why.
A moderator stated that the messages were removed because they counted as “religious discussion.” That is the part I’m trying to understand. The messages were not debating theology, preaching, arguing doctrine, or trying to start a religious argument in the Discord. They were LFG/recruitment messages identifying the theme and culture of the game/community: Christian D&D, faith-friendly, and open to both believers and non-believers who are comfortable with that table style.
There was also a separate issue where my user profile image was blocked because it contained a cross. That confused me further because other users appear to be allowed to use profile images or symbols that express identity, beliefs, or values, including Pride flags. I am not asking for those to be removed. I’m asking why a Christian symbol is treated differently if the standard is supposed to be neutral.
If the D&D Beyond Discord Server has a rule that no LFG message may mention religion at all, even as a table theme or community identity, then I’d like that clarified. But if other messages are allowed to identify table culture, values, identity, or community focus, then removing Christian-themed LFG messages as “religious discussion” seems inconsistent.
The intent of the messages was not to attack anyone, exclude non-Christians, or start a religious debate. The group is Christian-themed and faith-friendly, but it is also open and inviting to both believers and non-believers who are comfortable with that table culture. The message was meant to be transparent about the kind of game/community being offered, the same way people disclose things like LGBTQ+ friendly, horror-themed, grimdark, family-friendly, 18+, paid/free, or other table expectations.
My concern is that the removal appears inconsistent. Other LFG posts or profiles seem to be allowed to describe identity-based, values-based, or theme-based communities, but a Christian D&D post seems to be treated differently. If there is a specific rule being violated, I’d genuinely like to know what it is so the wording can be adjusted. But if the issue is simply that the table is explicitly Christian, that feels like viewpoint-based discrimination.
For context, the messages were not hostile, political, or exclusionary. They were about finding players for a Christian-friendly D&D game/community. Screenshots have been saved, and I’ve asked for clarification through the appropriate channels.
Has anyone else dealt with this on the D&D Beyond Discord Server? Is there a rule against religiously themed LFG messages, profile images with religious symbols, or Christian community recruitment? Or is this a moderation inconsistency that needs to be escalated?
I’m not looking to start a fight. I’m looking for fair and clear standards. Christian players should be allowed to find each other for D&D games the same way any other group with a shared theme, identity, symbol, or table culture can.
Hi, I am a Christian. Don't try to pull this crap. Not in my name.
I have been around the block to know what you are doing. "Oh why am I being discriminated against? Here is an example of me breaking the rules and someone else who isn't but look they are the same!" Pride flags are not Religious symbols. They are symbols of Value and community but are not RELIGIOUS. That isn't even comparing apples and oranges, that is comparing Dates to Donuts. Clean and simple, you broke the rules of the server. Don't try to throw people under the bus who didn't as a wedge.
If it is any comfort, many other religious symbols were banned or asked to be changed while I was there, Ahnks, Crux Ansata, Mjolnirs, Volk-knots, Unitarian Universalist lamps and Pentacles have all been asked to be changed or blocked.

I’m not trying to use anyone as a wedge, and I’m not asking for Pride flags to be removed.
I asked because my post was removed as “religious discussion,” even though it was just an LFG post describing a Christian-friendly table. If the rule is “no religious identifiers or symbols at all,” then your examples actually help clarify that.
That’s really all I’m asking for: a clear standard, not a fight.

Sorry. 9 times out of 10 when this sort of thing comes up it is someone trying to stir the pot and start a flame war. Forgive the harsh reaction.

Question: What do you mean by "Christian-friendly"? You said it is open to both "believers and non-believers". So perhaps it was something in how you described it to be "Christian-friendly" that prompted the removal?
By "Christian-friendly", do you mean there are no spells or hags (biblical prohibition on witchcraft) in the game? Do you mean the setting is "Christian", like the Crusades? What is it that makes it "Christian-friendly"? Is it that the plot features Paladins fighting against Fiends primarily? Is it suggesting that the game will ban/not portray LGBTQ+ characters/relationships?
