Hello, I am wondering if it would be possible for those of us who have the 2014 edition rulebooks for the PHB, DMG, and MM to receive at any point the option to swap them for the 2024 editions and then loose access to the legacy items? It is frustrating to have the three core legacy books that are accessible but only have the SRD for 2024 when I could, in theory, just swap these three books.

That'd be the equivalent of returning a book to a local gaming store and asking to take out another. They're not a library and neither is WOTC.
And they spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in salaries, operating costs, and producing the content for the 2024 books. They'd end up making a loss if they were to allow you to swap for free. Content costs money to produce. When people buy it, they're paying for that work. You don't get to say "But I paid for the work for 2014, so the work ten years later should be free".
Also, to update to the 2024 rules, you really only need the PHB. The stuff in the other two books may be nice to have, but between the old versions and the free rules, you can get along fine without them.
Building off jl8e's post, you don't really need to buy anything. You can use the free rules if you don't want to buy into the 2024 / 5.5E rules yet.
I'd pay say 20% - 30% for the new versions of the digital books I already have, or, I will simply not EVER move to 5.5e for $0. Their choice. Y'all have been getting $8.00/mo income already. I'll dump DnD for another system before I'll pay piecemeal as you "upgrade" me from mad to livid.

D&D Beyond is happy for you to stay on 5e. Just be aware they won't be producing new content for it. There are people still playing 1e and 2e, and a ton of people on 3.5e. And that one table that won't give up 4e.
Well, since the two versions are basically the same, all the new content can be backported with a minimum of effort.

My D&D journey started with Neverwinter the game, so 4e holds a special place in my heart.
Thanks so much for all the replies y'all! I caved and bought the PHB and reading over the SRD on D&D beyond was helpful to see what 5.5e content I have access too.
