So, I totally support the idea of spells that can be upcast to greater effect at certain levels being on your character's spell list for every level it can be cast at effectively.
However, while I support it because I see how that can be useful to some people, I do not need it, and personall I find that it clutters up my page. I just want to scroll through and look at the spells that I have available; I've been playing long enough that I generally know what spells can be upcast, and in case I don't it is easy to look up.
It is commendable that you tried to make it distinctive, it is pretty pobvious looking to see which are just upcast 1st level spells, but I still just find that it clutters things and would prefer an option to turn that off.
When I'm going to cast a spell, I've got the full spell open anyways. You can choose higher levels there. So I also would prefer to have spells only listed under their lowest level. It clutters up the spell list, especially at higher levels.
I agree with this request. I would like to be able to filter out upcast spells entries from the list, or setting a preference for not displaying them permanently.
I would really like this setting to be added, I just finished a high level campaign and I must say playing a multi class caster gets pretty crazy with all the up cast spells in your list. playing a cleric now and hopefully by the time I reach higher level it will be in, fingers crossed!!! I only have 20 spells but the up cast spells makes it look like I have 38!! and I am only level 5, scared of what it will look like wen I am in the 15 level range...
Playing a Lvl 6 Land Druid (Coast) with a Feat (Wood Elf Magic) and an Item (Pennant of the Vind Rune) that give me even more spells I'd really like a toggle too.
While it's great that I can see which spells can be upcast, sometimes I'm just looking for a Lvl 2, or Lvl 3 spell and then I have to scroll through a long list of upcast Lvl 1 spells, which is a bit bothersome. :S
Just spent an hour looking at my page for the button that turned this off....... I honestly can't believe this feature was implemented without the option to toggle it.
So thanks to the bump, I was motivated enough to go looking and there has indeed been a couple of feature requests added to the Zendesk thing for this exact problem... none have the 50+upvotes it takes to get to the front pages but hopefully since this is a small quality of life feature it shouldn't need as much incentive... hopefully we can get it enough attention to get it taken care of.
Adding a link to the newest one (which also has the most votes) below. Go vote it up if you agree! Even if you like the upcast spells showing, I think most can agree that it can be a clutter and the *option* should be there!
Or at the very least, make the upcast spells less visually distinctive (less saturated, for example) than the default spells of that level, rather than making them more distinctive (colored text, extra flag on the cast button).

As the original author of the aforementioned link, I'm super happy to help get it more traction! When I first asked this question to Adam during a Thursday Dev Update, he said he wasn't aware this was such a grievance. There were a number of people in the Twitch chat who went something akin to, "Uhh.... no we want this changed!" Hence why I posted it promptly after asking it.
Keep sharing around the link to the request so we can get the 50+ upvotes- y'all are rockstars!
What my solution would be is to list spells only by their level, and have some way of optionally upcasting them when you cast. Click cast and you get a dropdown or popup that says "cast at level..." that provides all appropriate options.

Well hey there! Glad you found us. Let's just make a little group and stage a peaceful protest lol. Jk, but seriously, will totally do that. If I can suggest, I would also highly recommend that you and anyone else capable to sit in on any dev update you can and keep asking, the persistence will show that we care and that it is an issue! Being respectful and polite of course.

I wouldn't be totally opposed to this, though I still think the best idea is for there to be a toggle to turn it on/off whether you want to see the upcast spell repeated. Especially since the dropdown/popup would have to tell you what it does at higher levels for it to be effective. Someone else mentioned filters and that wouldn't be a bad idea, though ideally then the sheet will just remember the filters you are using on your sheet and keep the selection saved until you change it.
This really needs to be done. It is impossible to clearly see your spells when you play a high level spellcaster, and it's very easy to see what an upcasted spell does, so this utility isn't even helping really.
Toggle (like the concentration or ritual ones) would be great, but in the mean time, I've gotten in the habit of using the "Manage Spells" option to see the list, rather than the spells section of the page... which is rather unfortunate.

Agreed.
I like the way they are doing it now. But yeah, perhaps a toggle switch or setting where you can disable it could work for those who don't like it.
As Chatora mentions above, I think a toggle of some sort to turn it on and off would probably be a reasonable solution. I do agree with this request.

Please continue looking into this, it is certainly the hardest part about playing a wizard with D&D Beyond.

Yes I know this is a necro post.
Maybe if we necropost it often enough, they will notice.
