Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes offers the option to select a different heritage for a Tiefling by replacing the default Ability Score Increase with its own (as well as by replacing the Infernal Legacy trait)
Swords Coast Adventurer's Guide offers variant tieflings by either replacing Infernal Legacy (for Winged, Hellfire, or Devil's Tongue) or by replacing one Ability Score Increase trait with another (Feral).
While a non-Asmodeus Tiefling subrace is not compatible with Winged, Hellfire, or Devil's Tongue (since they both replace Infernal Legacy with their own option), a non-Asmodeus Tiefling subrace *should* be eligible for Feral (by replacing the subrace's own Ability Score Increase with the Feral one). I still don't understand why Feral is separate in the Characters > Races section, but regardless, a Feral Dispater tiefling (for example) should be available.
But by the book none of the variants had a feral option, DDB has all the rules as printed by WotC and then there is homebrew for what is not official. I do not believe that DDB will ever do a Feral variant of the Mordenkainens Tiefling races, but you can do it in homebrew you just have to keep it private.

That's not what Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide says. All you need to do to be a Feral tiefling is to be a tiefling (the Mordenkainen's variants are still tieflings) and have GM permission. It is as much an official option as a Feral Asmodeus tiefling.
The feral tiefling changes the ability scores (notably only the +2). The Variant tiefling changes the infernal legacy. The mordenkainen tieflings change both (only the +1 ability score).
If you want a specific combo of tiefling variant rules, homebrew it. DDB is not going to make 8 new tiefling varients that are only unlocked by having 2 different optional books.
Well... if you go by how the MToF explains its tiefling variants come about, there would be no reason for any of the SCAG variant traits to (officially) apply to them. Which means there's no reason DDB should ever provide that option.
The SCAG variants are for general purpose non-Asmodeus tieflings. The MToF variants are for specific non-Asmodeus tieflings. Think about it this way: when deciding the bloodline for your tiefling, if you don't want it to be Asmodeus but you want it to have feral traits, you wouldn't choose Dispater, because if your tiefling has Dispater's blood, MToF tells you specifically what your tiefling would be like.
Of course you can throw that out the window and homebrew it, but for official and DDB purposes, it's not going to happen. Which makes perfect sense.

there's no reason why you cant do this in your own campaign if you wanted to. there's homebrew explanation for tons of stuff. but that's not reason enough for DDB to go out of its way to create all these options which many people don't consider cannon. in short theres nothing wrong with it but that doesnt mean it belongs here

I appreciate that you have the same opinion I did 5 months ago, but please don't necro old threads.

I've been fighting this battle for awhile now.

That doesn't mean DDB should offer it, either.
Yes, actually, it does.

I wonder if there could be a reason they don't. Oh wait:
^What they said.
DDB is based on the books, not Crawford's (albeit official) interpretation of them.
