When you first arrive at dndbeyond.com, it's not clear where you should click. There's a giant "BETA PHASE 1" image that looks like a button, but it's not, despite having a glow effect upon hovering. The "Join the Beta" button logs you in and put you back on the same home page.
My suggestion would be to have the "BETA Phase 1" image be a button that takes you to the Compendium page. You really want to reduce the amount of confusion the very first time people see the website.
I 100% agree.. I assumed the beta was not opened yet based on the lack of feedback from the Join Beta button. I'm still not sure exactly what to do at this point :(
What we missed: The main forum post which explains how this works. Unfortunately the two forums buttons on the lower half of the main page, drill us down into the BETA TESTING & FEEDBACK area.
You can do that by, clicking the "visit the forums" button or Forum Pillar Icon on the TOP banner.
Or
On the top of this page, click on D&D BEYOND GENERAL then NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS forum.
What you will learn: All we can do on this phase is basically post in the forums and check out the COMPENDIUM, SPELLS, ITEMS & MONSTERS. Our job is to make sure all of the 5th edition items are accounted for in those categories.

Agreed, I was partially expecting a client side application install...my past gaming days involved client side installs from Curse.
Looking forward to testing this at the table via tablet this weekend.
Yeah, it took me clicking on it a few times before I realized it wasn't a button.
I was confused also. Is there something to down load or will that come later?

Add me to the "thought it was a button" club! lol
Ok, here's what we missed and here's why.

Make sense?
Not sure why I didn't just link the correct forum in the first place. *SMH*

Thanks!
Haha...I actually clicked the "Join Beta" button twice thinking that it just signed me in...so do it again to make it official...
But with further inspection, I found all of this!
I also agree with tbec(OP)'s suggestion.
