Campaign Ownership & Collaborative DM Roles The Problem:
Current D&D Beyond campaigns lock administrative control to a single creator. If a DM needs to step down, transfer responsibility, or share the workload, they are forced to abandon the existing campaign and manually migrate all character data, notes, and encounters to a new one.
The Solution:
Add an "Administrative Controls" tab to the Campaign Settings, allowing the primary DM to delegate roles and transfer ownership.
Core Functionality:
Transfer Ownership: A "Transfer DM" button allows the current owner to select a player from the campaign roster as the new lead. This triggers a multi-factor verification (email/code) to prevent account hijacking.
Collaborative "Co-DM" Roles: Allow the primary DM to grant "Co-DM" status to other players, granting them permissions to edit encounters, manage maps, and track combat without needing full ownership.
Legacy Identity: The original creator remains tagged as the "Founder" or "Legacy DM" in the campaign details, preserving the campaign's history and origin identity even after leadership changes, or transfer their legacy founder tag to a new DM.
Why This Matters for DMs:
Mentorship: Junior DM's can now get into campaigns and watch/learn from senior DM's in building, or act as apprentices and do tasks like below.
Division of Labor: Teams can specialize. One DM can focus on World Building (maps, lore, handouts), while another acts as the Tactical Lead (encounter design, stat blocks, and combat balance).
Increased Bandwidth: During complex scenes, roles can be split in real-time. One DM manages the narrative and NPCs, while the other handles rules adjudication, initiative, and encounter tracking, leading to smoother, more immersive sessions.
Sustainability: This system eliminates burnout by allowing for seamless transitions and collaborative management, ensuring campaigns can survive even if the original creator needs to step away.
