I think it would be extremely helpful to have a way to organize/tag created characters in D&D beyond.
For example I'm going to be running Mines of Madness, so I'm creating and printing out a stack of level 3 characters. I'd love to be able to group them all together.
Or when I retried a character or campaign, I don't want to delete the character, but I'd love for it to make way for newer or different characters I might play.
If you are using the website in the Chrome browser on a desktop/laptop, you can install the “Beyond help” Chrome extension, which will allow you to sort characters into folders.
If you use Chrome, download the Beyond Help extension and it will allow you to organize your characters in folders as long as you're using a Chrome browser with it installed.
Sorry I was doing some digging and figured I would save the next person from trying the extension and trying to figure out if the folder feature was ever actually added.

Thanks!
I believe folders are coming to character organisation at some point.
Until that time, a suggestion I've seen is using campaigns as folders; you make a campaign and 'invite' all your characters you want to use in it.

It is currently listed under short term plans on roadmap.

Extension is dead and clearly dispite being "under short term plans on roadmap." It never happened...
I see this thread was recently necro'd, but I'd like to put in a vote for adding folders to the character collection.

I didn't mean to be critical - just that I share your sentiment. I really would like something like folders for the characters collection!
