Is there a reason the Unearthed Arcana Subclasses don't appear as options when one selects "select an existing subclass as a template"?
I absolutely love the new Lurker in the Deep patron for Warlocks, but want to flavor it differently, and thereby change some of the mechanics, so I figured the best way to do this was to create a new subclass based on it, but apparently that is not an option.
Sorry if this has already been asked, I tried to look it up, but was unable to find anyone addressing it in my search.
UA stuff generally is integrated into the homebrew system for a few reasons:
Subject to change; it's not finalised so the work to integrate it into the homebrew database might not be worth it
Removal from UA on finalisation; if something moves out of UA and into a final product, you'll lose access to the UA version. As such, they don't allow homebrewing for UA stuff to prevent your homebrew becoming unusable
Unfinalised versions; often the UA implementation will be somewhat 'hacky', DDB adds it in a rough and ready fashion to get it accessible, rather than spending the time doing full implementation when it might end up changing down the line.
