For content sharing, someone in your campaign needs to have the book and the DM has to enable content sharing (requires master subscription), you also need to be creating the character through the campaign I think (might not work if you create a character and then import it, though you can always edit it again afterwards).
Otherwise, if you want Xanathar sub-classes, you don't need the whole book if nothing else in it interests you (though there are a bunch of feats and spells, so IMO it's worth it); a single sub-class only costs $1.99, or you can get them all for $9.99, and it contributes towards the full price of the book if you do eventually buy the whole thing.

Former D&D Beyond Customer of six years: With the axing of piecemeal purchasing, lack of meaningful development, and toxic moderation the site isn't worth paying for anymore. I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.
I have unsubscribed from all topics and will not reply to messages. My homebrew is now 100% unsupported.

Are they not avail in character creation?
They are if you buy the book here or have it shared by someone who has.
