Using the Environment filter on the monster search is great for coming up with ideas of encounters. Making sure you get the right kind of aquatic creature, or proper creatures for hill areas are great.
However it would be nice to see various planes listed on there, for the same reason above. You don't want to be on the Astral plane and the party asking why there is an air elemental there.
The environment information is taken from official sources; specifically the various random encounter tables that are grouped by those environments. correction, I was wrong. The environmental information comes from the 'creatures by environment' sections of the various books:
There's no such official sources for planes of origin, especially considering that the planes vary greatly between settings. D&D Beyond always endeavours to respect official material and doesn't create new rules.
