While the player bundle was a great idea, it still felt off for a couple of reasons:
In the bundle you get the players handbook, xanathars, tashas.... and the sword coast adventures guide? One of these things doesnt look like the other. And yes SCAG has a good amount of player options, technically more then Volos or Mordenkainens, but it's still mostly a campaign setting guide. One of the reasons I didn't buy the bundle was because I didnt want SCAG because I only wanted to pay for the player options and not the rest. If it was only the first three books, I probably would've jumped on it.
If it was just the first 3 player books fine because they are the "general" player books and anything else is extra. But SCAG feels like a slap to players who wanted the other player options in other books. And yes theres the sourcebook bundle. Which is why SCAG shouldn't be in the players bundle. Because of this it feels both bloated and incomplete because one extra sourcebook was added while the others were ignored.
Aside from just removing SCAG from the bundle, theres an easy solution to this: Make a bundle that only has the player options and nothing else from the books
Races, classes, spells, items, etc. From all the sourcebooks and NOTHING else. No compendium content. You dont get any of the monster stats or lore from Volos or Mordenkainens, you dont get any of the lore from SCAG, eberron, ravnica, etc. Just the options for the character builder.
This would also fix another nitpick I have. I bought the Eberron book but I dont get a discount on tashas despite both having the artificier. Another reason I didn't jump on the bundle, because I dont want to pay for the same stuff twice (and yes artificier is only 1 part of the books that overlap but still.) If the bundle only included player options, then it would be fine.
I'm not trying to bash dndbeyond. I'm glad they added it but personally I find it could be better. And yes you can buy non-compendion content individually. But you can buy books individually and they still get bundles.
No. The Player Bundle consists of the PHB, XGtE, SCAG, and TCoE. That covers most but not all of the races/subraces, subclasses, and spells. It will get you the artificer, so you'll have all classes. And if you buy all of those books, there will be a lot less to purchase piecemeal from the other books.
Unfortunately that bundle doesn't exist. Its what the current player bundle should be. The sourcebook bundle should give you all the races, spells, etc. but you also get everything else in those books.

I'm interested in only having all races, classes and spells.
Is this the "player" bundle i need?
