I am going to play a Cleric in a new campaign and am interested in the Telepathic (Wisdom) Feat. This includes ability to cast Detect Thoughts with Wisdom as the spellcasting ability.
In the Spell description there is a reference to a Wisdom saving throw (this would use my Wisdom spellcasting DC) and then as follows:
“Either way, the target knows that you are probing into its mind, and unless you shift your attention to another creature’s thoughts, the creature can use its action on its turn to make an Intelligence check contested by your Intelligence check; if it succeeds, the spell ends.”
Obviously RAW the reference to “your Intelligence check” is clear. However, does anyone think that RAI the action on the target’s turn should be opposed by the caster’s spellcasting ability and not fixed to an Intelligence check ?
As a further question, using my advanced snivelling powers honed over years of playing RPGs I could request our DM to make it the spellcasting ability. Would that be a reasonable thing to ask or should I just suck up the consequences of using Int as a dump stat ?
