new to the site and the forum but definitely NOT new to the game. anyhow, i have been searching for quite sometime now for a piece of software for my laptop that i can use as a database, as such, to be able to both have access to ALL the standard dnd and maybe pathfinder, (maybe all of d20) info, i.e., classes, items, monsters, races, etc etc, but also be able to modify those things as well as add my own creations as i see fit. preferably in a campaign setting breakdown. let me give some more detailed info into all of what i have used, might better explain what im looking. i have used PCGEN, and it works great, but trying to add new things to its system is rather difficult and has no way to really do it from inside the program, but i have made some progress with it over the years off and on. i have used the ad&d core rules 2.0 program, and same thing there, not much of a way to add custom information that can be used program wide, not just in the specific area i put that information in, this is the same with PCGEN. i have tried other programs throughout the years and theyre pretty much the same way. you have loads of standard information available at your fingertips, which is great, but when it comes to inputting custom information for your homebrew campaign, or truly editing existing information so it better fits your ideal of how the various things should be, none of them seem to have an interface to be able to do so. at least not without going and doing some serious source file editing. thats an option, dont get me wrong, but like with PCGEN, there is a buttload of work that needs to be done just to get it all to play well together, not to mention the countless hours needed staring at the original source files just to understand how they need to be formatted to even be able to be read by the program. some of the online resources for this work well, but still not what im looking for. i really need something that can be used offline to accomplish this. heck i have even attempted a couple of time to use different office suite database applications, but that level of confusion is a completely different can of goblins. so now to my question, does any one have any ideas on an application for offline use that i can get, preferably FREE, to do this with??
i would also like to find a map creation software that not only allows the creation of custom maps, but has a nice algorithm for making random ones as well. all the way up to a world scale and all the way down to the room level within a building. if it could populate said maps with them being customizable in a similar manner, all the better.... yeah i know i may be looking for a needle here but i hope someone out there has had at least a similar thought as me in this regard and either knows someone who has made such software or has made it themselves.
I'm not sure if you realize exactly what you are asking for, which is basically an offline version of D&D Beyond and something like Inkarnate, but free. It costs a lot of capital, human and otherwise, to create this site and provide this level of service. "free" services tend to be either 1) extremely limited in scope, or 2) a labor of love by 1 or a small group of individuals, and extremely limited in scope.
If such software exists, I highly doubt it is free. But good luck in your search!

You're not looking for a needle. You're looking for something unrealistic.
Time is the most important resource everyone has, and it's not free. You want this ultra flexible resource that is able to do everything you want, to be developed to your specific need and to not cost you anything?
