Please share your own thoughts, but for summer fun ...
Starting Pitcher -- wizard, lots of potential pitches at his disposal, also masters at illusion and deception, best beards in baseball too
Middle Relief Pitcher -- sorceress, wild pitch = wild surge, hit batter, strike out, walk, grand slam, who knows what will happen when she takes the mound
Closer -- warlock, elritch fastball anyone, less pitches available, but man when roll you need to break out multiple dice sets
Catcher -- cleric, calms your pitcher down perhaps with a bit of cure wounds or bless, total support, and best when tanked up with a killer AC, you sorceress listen to your spotter there, he sees things you can't -- really! Don't shake him off!
First Base -- paladin, woman of few words, she doesn't take the bait, and when garbage, off center throws are sent her way, her divine powers make unbelievable saves -- also capable of crushing the ball at the plate, but also predictable hitting charts (shift works well against)
Second Base -- ever lovable rogue, small, steals bases like nobody's business, not much arm, but when they turn a double play its with advantage, also adept at hitting in gabs and just getting on base
Third Base -- welcome friend Ranger! Beards and arms second only to your pitchers, but own their favorite adversaries like nobody's business and able to track down balls that are out of play -- and contrary to popular belief they are far from broken
Short Stop -- your swarmy rogue again ... if any class is gonna show up twice it might as well be your rogue, though these rogues fight two-weapon fighting style or your swashbuckler; sometimes monks fit in here too ... same reason; this rogue is the first to run to his pitchers aid
Left Field -- meet the fighter ... really a damage dealing, out of the park hitting hero, especially late game -- treats his bat like an extension of his arm, but also capable of grabbing any other bat and turning it into a formidable weapon
Center Field -- fighter again, less tanky than her LF friend, she is know for an arm that rivals that of your ranger / 3B, capable not only of great power behind the plate, but has a habit of performing great athletic feats and saving the party from certain doom either while diving across the field or stealing a home run ball
Right Field -- part jack of all trades and part inspirational nut job, a bard's job isn't just about hanging in foul territory and bantering back with drunk fans, but also rousing the team morale back in the dugout ... who cares if your bard doesn't go long as often as his LF, CF, 3B, and 1B friends ... he does have your back, his words won't really make sense outside of the moment, but heck his smile is magic
Designated Hitter/Pitch Hitter -- ball, crush, me, mad, ARGGGGGG! One job, long-ball. OK two jobs ... when there is a bench clearing brawl, crush things. Barbarian, also on a CR1 breaks own bat ... or worse! Barbarian / DH melt downs are the best to watch.
Pitch Runner -- you again rogue? That's right, you have a DC20 check on stealing not only that base, but once you get their, by any means necessary steal signs using your thieves cant to send messages to your team mates
Umpire -- nobody likes you blue -- you are neutral, stand around A LOT, seem to throw LOTS of 1s (blown calls), and your own job is to be consistent ... that never happens ... we'll call you druid
Rover -- OK, I know I said baseball, but let's just pretend ... this version of the bard is mouthy, she is your caller, moves everybody into position, and mouths back at the other team at the same time, coaches (DMs) hate her, oh ... did I mention that when a routine pop fly is hit to left field that this ham will collide with her LF and then chew him out for not getting out of her way, this again is why coaches (DMs) hate her.
OK, I realize the Artificer wasn't singled out ... that is because your Articifer class is reserved for the a select few pitchers. Ever seen a 50 mph fastball. Nope, so haven't most batters, save guys pitching against Zack Greinke. He has six signature spells he'll throw at ya, but through magic unknown to most that number is closer to sixty when you allow your artificer pitchers to break the rules and create new pitching styles.
Do your answers change based on American or National league?
1800's baseball when you can tamper with your ball, or 2000's baseball where you can't?
Japanese style synergy baseball that wins more games, or US style big run baseball that sells more tickets? Does Cricket count? Because I think Monk would make for a great catcher or bowler.

No monk?
