Alignment is an un-immersive description of a character that reduces their qualities down to their good-evil and lawful-chaotic alignments, and if that weren't true, then the cosmic planes wouldn't dictate where people go by these two alignments. This means that as long as they have the same alignment and can pass on properly, they will still go to the same cosmic plane that fits their alignment regardless of what they do or what happens to them. I've said before that the alignment system is too rigid, now I'm saying cosmic planes are too rigid: people are a spectrum of various qualities, and how the alignment system as well as the cosmic planes work don't take into account or just don't value other personal qualities.
What if their were a cosmic plane for bards where they could share their music? Or a cosmic plane where all manner of rogues hide and steal? Maybe a cosmic plane where characters with high constitution go to test their will power. Writing this, maybe cosmic planes should just have mixed borders, like with the elemental planes?
