Hey all, I have some questions about DND Beyond that I hope some of you might be able to answer:
Our group has used the site for its character generator, but we’re looking into upgrading to the Master Tier in order to share the sourcebooks that we’re purchased. If one of us gets the Master Tier, do ALL of us get to create unlimited characters, or just the Master?
If a member or the Master creates more than six characters, what happens when the subscription expires? Do the extra characters get deleted?
Likewise, if a character is created using shared material — Shepherd Druid Firbolg, or Warforged Artificer, eg — do those characters still exist when the subscription expires? Can they still advance as if the sourcebooks were still available?
How customizable is the character generator? I’ve purchased a few third-party sourcebooks with new subclasses, races, spells, etc? How easily can these be recreated on Beyond? Can you do more fundamental alterations, like could the DM give characters a free feat, or say they could be attuned to a fourth magic item?
1) the Master Tier is mainly for DMs, with the chief benefit being able to share content, though you obviously get all the Hero tier benefits as well with it. Regardless, the unlimited characters benefit applies to individual accounts, it can't be shared with others.
2) if your subscription expires and you have more than six characters, you'll have to lock all but six of them (your choice which). The locked ones don't get deleted, you simply can't use them.
3) The characters will still exist as they are, including the info that was shared; when you want to advance them further you won't be able to use content you no longer have access to though.
4) That depends on what you need. The homebrew tools can do a lot, but not just anything. They can be a bit of a hassle to use too. Some things are easy though, like extra feats - those can be managed right on the character sheet.

Want to start playing but don't have anyone to play with? You can try these options: [link].
3. If you're really worried about a PC losing access to shared content, keep in mind that it's pretty cheap to buy specific subclass, spells, feats, etc. Probably about $10 if you didn't go crazy and pick spells from more than a couple of books.
4. Some things are easier than others. I'm not an expert on this site, but I doubt you could have a 4th attunement slot. But other things are easy. For example, I'm going to give all my players a free half-feat without the ASI. I was originally thinking I would need to create homebrew feats, but since it's easy to modify stats, I can let the players add their feat and then they can modify their stat by -1.
