Finally took the plunge and bought the pdf to take a closer look at this and have a few questions I was hoping you might be able to help answering.
1) Has anyone tried converting this over into 5e?
2) Has anyone tried running this properly and I don't mean skipping what happened to the Circle of Eight?
3) I'm looking at this and I've been converting the Eight into 5e although weaker but adapting that adventure as part of an idea I've been tinkering with.
I'm NOT looking to deliberately TPK the party, but that scenario has potential for something much more interesting and I genuinely wanted to find out if anybody else has tried and if so would they care to share the results?
Anyway much obliged in advance and please ask any questions you want to clarify what I'm talking about as that will ultimately also help me if I ever get this off the ground!
Hi I’m in the process of converting the campaign now. Though I hadn’t planned on posting my work. I don’t see the need to cut out the circle of 8 battle, or to let the circle live, as my players are going to be playing them (the circle) as though it’s a memory being shown by another wizard that they get to play out. This keeps the battle relevant, and useful as a device to create tension, and gives the players reason to invest time in to investigating the circles death, otherwise why would they feel the need to go looking.
I would say don’t cut anything out of the module. those who hate on the old modules just lack the imagination to fill the gaps to make the plot device work. My group will go through all 3 modules eventually Vecna lives, Vecna reborn, and die Vecna die, and once iv converted all the details, I might post some of the details it just depends on how much free time I have.
DDB put out this scenario when it released the Vecna Dossier, maybe you'll find it worth including, or maybe help you think through your conversion plans:
Has anyone gone anywhere with this? I'm new to d&d but the concept of Vecna is extremely alluring to me, I would love to play all 3 Vecna adventures in 5e in preparation for the upcoming Vecna adventure.
I’m 3/4 through running vecna lives. my players are enjoying it very much so far, just a lot of work converting to 5e rules, plenty of home brew conversions of old monsters.
