Im going to add a detail physically capable of doing so is in reference to requirements written in the rules of the ability not the surrounding lore of how you do the thing
Outside of the mechanics that are written down the lore of how your character works is determined by the player
Say your changling was once a human and was vain so a witch cursed there form to shift and they are searching for there face
Now your shapechange ability uses a magical curse to shape change can a bear be cursed
When it says physically capable of doing so it means physically capable of fufilling the requirements of the ability since the surrounding lore around a ability by design is completely up to the player
So take dragons breath you need to exhale a torrent of energy thats written as a requirement so if you change into a creature without a mouth you cant fufill that requirement but bears dont have fire glands cool
My dragon born. Is the skyrim kind and useses the ancient language taught by a monastery to create flame from there mouth
The mechanics of the game only interact with the mechanics of the game theres no other instance in the game where the mechanics are impacted by by lore because itsa roll playing game and the lore can litterly be anything
For some more a wild shape cannot fufill the requirements of a tortal because one of the requirements is the tortal retracts into its shell thats written into the mechanics as a action you need to preform
However if I wildshaped into a armadillo suddly I can use that ability because I can retract into a shell
The requirements for a changeling is the changeling must have seen the creature before and it cannot add or subtract limbs and it has a limited size it can be
If you fufill the requirements to use that ability thats the abilitys mechanics how those mechanics are achieved the game doesn't care about
You can make yourself appear as a member of another race, though none of your
You can only change to members of another race not species so you can change into different types of monkeys but not into a halfling
Race was replaced with Species in the rules text in 5.5e. You can't differentiate them in a meaningful way.
Additionally, this thread was made under the 5e rules and only talks about the 5e Wild Shape. As a note, 5.5e Druid's Wild Shape doesn't retain species features. (I would know; I play a Plasmoid Moon Druid and it would be funny to be able to squeeze through 1-inch openings as a bear.)

Eh, you're stretching to use Shapechanger while Wildshaped.
And the reasons why you can't have already been explained multiple times in this thread.
Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.

Addendum as shape change does work but
You can make yourself appear as a member of another race, though none of your
