The whole Time of Troubles in Forgotten Realms was about gods dying, either at the hands of mortals or at the hands of other gods. Cyrus, Kelemvor, Midnight and others became gods this way. Maybe Ao wants him to kill the gods?
While true, you have to also add that it was very special case/time and all gods were (except Helm) in weakened state (only Avatars in prime material plane) because of AO. Normally you can kill god only in his own home plane where god is also most powerfull.
I agree, but I was trying to give him a reason. Personally, as a DM I would give him almost no chance of being noticed, but if he was, it would be a very brief encounter...
