Does a familiar understand common?

Does a familiar understand Common?  If the familiar was in a room and I was in another room, could it relay to me any information about a conversation that was taking place?  Could it respond to a request from a party member to do something?

Familiars have the statistics of the creature that was chosen, which includes the language entry. Normal familiars do not speak common, and communicate with their Master via Telepathy.

Moreover, most familiars will have an intelligence of 2, which is not intelligent enough to do anything of much complexity on its own.

However, you can share its senses and simply listen in on the conversation directly.

That said, it is reasonable to assume that they can be trained as well as any other of their species. If you want to create simple commands that any member of the party can dictate, then your DM may allow it.
