The gift guide for 2021 in the latest issue of Dragon+ says regular and alternate cover options. Are they doing a reprint? I will GLADLY pay $170 for a full set instead of the near $700 on Amazon or Ebay. I've been wanting that set for a long time and I am hoping the gift guide isn't a "cop and paste" situation from 2020 or before.

When you click the link to purchase, it takes you to Target's website that only sells the foil version (Left), not the alternate covers (Right). I was hoping someone had a lead on if they were releasing the alternate covers again because they are selling for over $600 on Ebay or Amazon. I don't want to sell them, I want to own them! I just don't want to pay $200+ per book. I've looked for a forum on the WOTC site but I'm not sure it's even an option. Any help in asking WOTC is appreciated.

So the alt covers aren't usually available through Target or Amazon, except through Amazon's secondary market. Alt covers are supposed to be an incentive you utilize FLGS (friendly neighborhood game stores). Most of them take pre-orders, so it'd probably be a good tactic to check with one if they can order it. I don't see it listed at my store's website, but they also have an original set of the alt boxed set for like $550. I might ask next time I check in there (reminds me to start holiday shopping).
Curiously, none of the other books scheduled with alt covers (Strixhaven and the Expansion boxed set) show their retailer incentives.
It's entirely possible it's just recycled art and lazy art direction.

You’ll have to ask WOTC that. DnDBeyond is its own company not owned by WOTC and doesn’t sell physical books.
I mean, there's an image of the two sets in that announcement in Dragon+ - not sure what is being asked here?
Want to start playing but don't have anyone to play with? You can try these options: [link].

That's not how collector stuff works... if they just reprint more when they run out it's just a regular piece at that point
