I’m a DM that’s running a home brew campaign with six 5th level (currently) characters. I’ve just introduced the Champion’s Tournament, which is basically an MMA battle round robin for the country the characters are currently residing in. There are 1v1 battles with brackets for either Melee or Spellcasters, as well as team battles with mixed groups.
This tournament will takes months of game time with many, many rounds of combat. That’s where you come in!
Firstly.. will you share your DDB characters with me? I need NPCs between 4th and 8th level to fill in the ranks of the NPC combatants
Secondly.. if you’re interested in RPing in a one shot now and then and RP your characters.. that’d be awesome too!
If you’re willing to share you character, please share your DDB link either here in the comments or PM me directly. Include your favorite combo attacks or features and how you like to play the character I don’t need a full backstory.. just a few sentences would do. If you’d like RP a one shot now and then, include your Discord nickname and I’ll reach out to you
Thanks In advance and look forward to reading about all of your characters!
Sorry as I don’t make my characters on D&D beyond (I use physical character sheets) and am not available to join games, but if you need NPC stats quickly, you can use the appendixes of the MM or VGtM (but not MToF) as those books have generic adventurer stats that you can easily customise.
Thanks so much for the reply! I am aware of the general NPCs in the MM, but was trying to create some more creative foes for my players. If they continue through the entire tournament, they will eventually face around 30-40 NPCs, so you can see my challenge. :D
Ye know? This is kind of a legitimately neat idea. If you're gonna do a Tournament Arc for your campaign, inviting guest characters from across the globe could make for a really cool moment for your players when they realize they're legit fighting (at least in spirit) other players from throughout DDB. Sadly most of my active sheets are either below or above the level cutoff, funnily enough, but I do have one I can throw in here.
Persona: Knioke is a cheerful, kinda derpy fun-loving gal. She shares a close bond with her Primal companion (Beast of the Sky statblock), Sir Artorius Pendragon III, Spirit-King of Draconets and Dracolord of the Gold Grove (title awarded by Knioke, heh). She calls him Arty. Very good at her job of nature guide and wilderness explorer, otherwise likely to be kind of a doofus.
Combat: In tight quarters Knioke favors close combat with her staff, after casting Shillelagh. When fighting with Artorius, she uses her own attacks to knock her target prone, giving both Arty and herself advantage on melee attacks, and commands Artorius to attack before flying up out of reach using Flyby to let her buddy avoid harm. Arty's single attack, while it's only rolled once and deals damage once, is usually fluffed as him going apeshit on the target and savaging it in a frenzy of tiny little teeth and claws.
From a distance Knioke uses her Nature's Arrow spell to fire magical arrows at her foes. If there's enough space and cover she'll cast Beast Bond with Artorius, sending him to hide in a treetop or similar thick cover, observe her enemies while remaining unseen himself, and communicate their movement back to her. Artorius is MUCH smarter than a typical beast due to being a Primal Companion; Knioke's DM ruled that they can speak normally through Beast Bond's telepathy. He effectively acts as a hard-to-find spotter to her sniping; could be an interesting set-piece fight.
Born in the Dark Domain of Har'Akir, he is one-eighth fire genasi (variant human) -- this doesn't give him any genasi abilities, but when he rages little embers and flecks of burning ash drift up out of his flame-red hair
Between his barb level and the Mobile feat, Dje'Kare has 50 feet of movement, and with the Dual Wielder feat he swings two large khopeshes (reskinned battleaxes) with ease. He's essentially a whirling dervish, using his speed and the lack of opportunity attacks against him to zip around the battlefield, Recklessly Attacking then moving out of range of slower melee fighters

Active characters:
Edoumiaond Willegume "Eddie" Podslee, Vegetanian scholar (College of Spirits bard) Lan Kidogo, mapach archaeologist and treasure hunter (Knowledge cleric) Peter "the Pied Piper" Hausler, human con artist/remover of vermin (Circle of the Shepherd druid) PIPA - Planar Interception/Protection Aeormaton, warforged bodyguard and ex-wizard hunter (Warrior of the Elements monk/Cartographer artificer) Xhekhetiel, halfling survivor of a Betrayer Gods cult (Runechild sorcerer/fighter)
He is cocky and sure of himself and likes to taunt his enemies. However he isn't very clever with his insults and they often don't make any sense.
In combat he will try to hex a target then put a poisoned arrow or two into them. Then he will close, capering about spinning his poisoned spear while trying to poke holes in his target or plant a well placed foot into their knee, face, or privates.
If magic items are allowed he carries a decanter of endless water but only to do a showering display before the fight starts, he doesn't use it in fights.
Tussle Feylim. He is obviously touched by the Feywild with arms just a bit too long on his gangly body and eyes with pupils like that if a goat. He is an Astral Self monk who grapples and pummels his enemies with astral arms that look like oversized praying mantis claws. He has expertise Athletics and while his arms are summoned uses his WIS mod instead of STR for grappling and unarmed strikes. At the bottom of the skill list is the Astral Arms Athletics skill with +11 (5 from WIS and 6 from double PB) to the roll for easier use rolling from the sheet.
Edit: for clarification, Tussle grapples with his real arms and attacks with the astral arms, as the astral arms can’t grapple.
Here's my dwarf Monk, Helja. If she's fighting for sport, she'll genuinely apologize for hurting her opponent unless they prove they're dangerous. Then she'll get serious. She fights dirty (the poison is for monsters, though) and doesn't use her hands much -- kicks and headbutts (Stunning Strike indeed!) are her go-to. Her Eldritch Claw Tattoo is of a confused-looking ogre with a big cartoony bruise, with the text "That smarts!" When activated, it manifests the image of a big ogre fist that smashes opponents. She wears the blue ribbon that marks her as a priestess of Sharindlar, tied around her head ninja turtle style. If she happens to win, she'll probably offer to help patch her opponent up with her healer's kit. If she's losing, she likely encourages her opponent not to hold back, like the character in a martial arts movie who's got something to prove, and fights until she can't fight.
In general you may want to list things that do not exist in your game or that you do not allow. That way you do not get any race: strawberry class: butcher Stat: all in the 15-22 range with home brew magic items in the level 18+ range for PC's in the 4-8 level range.

Definitely appreciate the advice. I've gotten a few submissions and everyone seems to be fairly well balanced. However, I'm experienced enough to be able to tweak them if necessary.
Jibra'il's a cocky sort, assuming he can always sweet talk or bully himself out of sticky situations. A mouser for hire employing shady magic, he can be expected to handle himself but his preference is teaming up: not only is there strength in numbers, he's also adept at empowering allies and weakening foes for others to take down. Besides that, he likes his creature comforts and not every quarry he's sent after has the decency to stay in a civilized area with warm inns, good food, indoor plumbing and stimulating company to be had at the drop of a few coins. It's nice to have someone with you to take care of the rough edges of one's surroundings.
Of note: Jibra'il currently has a Staff of Defense from LMOP and is not really optimized for single combat or for fighting without that staff. He does have a few tricks so the single combat part doesn't have to be a major issue, but without the staff he should probably have Mage Armor and/or Shield among his spells known. There's a lot of concentration spells there too, and the damage spells tend to be picked for ancillary effects more than pure damage.
Lysris (in pronunciation just ignore the first 's') is a reborn werewolf who used to be / is a (I don't know which one to use because she's a reborn) goliath. (I wouldn't put in the immunities of being a werewolf; too over powered) She's a lvl 1 Blood Hunter and 3 levels in Warlock. It might be interesting to do a level with Bard or Druid too. Her personality is mostly grumpy but sometimes she surprises people in weird ways, like taking care of a random plant or giving a disturbing gift to someone (either because she likes them or not ).
Karg is an orc who specializes in cooking. You could make him appear with a pot or a giant ladle for flavor. His original backstory was that he left his orc tribe because he found out they had no taste in chili peppers, and he and his brother Ronaogark ventured off to civilization. Karg befriended the citizens and started a cooking club called Karg's Conspicuous Cooking Club. Ronaogark got jealous and started his own restauraunt, Ronaogark's Ravenous Restauraunt. War broke out between the two brothers and the town now has a few strange 'accidents' that will be remembered throughout their history. His class is Fighter.
Bob is a human. He owns a shop called Bob's Baubles which sells antiques. He's also an old man of 70 with a few classes in Paladin and Fighter. He's not really that interesting now that I think about it, but maybe someone will hesitate on attacking him. Or not.
Feljin is a kenku with an unusual past. He has a locket on his chest which allows him to dispel the old kenku curse of only copying what others have created, and gives him his own voice instead of only mimicking words he's heard, though he can still do that. Feljin (or Splash, before he found a different name) had always tried to find a loop hole in the restriction but had always failed to make something of his own. One day, the revered dwarf wizard (who was also a fine carpenter and craftsman) Belram Brutgirr saw potential in Feljin and took him. For years, Feljin learned and copied as much as he could until Belram gave him a locket that allowed him to create whatever he wanted, even his own voice. Feljin later opened a shop called Feljin's Glasswork. Feljin is a level 7 Bard but could multiclass as an Artificer.
I hope that helps and wasn't too lengthy. Sorry I couldn't give you any real character sheets or stats, but they might be fun in an arena anyways!

Yeah! I thought it’s be a blast, especially if anyone wanted to “guest star” an appearance! Should be a lot of fun!
Thanks for the character!
I have a backup character for a campaign I haven't had to break out yet that seems like he would be a fit for this.
Dje'Kare Nefer, a level 7 Path of the Zealot barbarian
