It seems that most of the dragon art, even with some out in Fizbans, still leaves a lot to be desired. The monster manual drawings are mostly mediocre (although the red and blue still hold their own imo). Some of the art, like the Greatwyrms, seems to be pretty well put together, but others, like the gem dragons, is flat out terrible. I hate to say it that strongly, but really guys, come on. The amethyst dragon looks like barney the friggin purple dinosaur for crying out loud. The black dragon and bronze in the MM are other examples of actual good art. If we're going to release dragon books, some new and better accompanying art would be appreciated.

Amethysts have literally always looked that way. Actually, pretty much all of the Gem Dragons have (there's a reason I really only like Sapphire and Emerald dragon designs). Like...
yeah. All you really gotta do is go look at dragon art through DnD history: anything that isn't the main 10 and maybe Faerie Dragons has always had some odd or questionable designs.

Yeah. I mean, I know this just sounds like an annoying complaint, but I legitimately would like to see some cooler art. I mean, I know we don't buy the source books to look at pictures, but especially with creatures as majestic and interesting as dragons, I feel like some high class, detailed art is warranted. That said, a good example of well done art is anything for the red dragon. My main complaint was with the newer stuff.
I was hoping for more diverse dragons altogether, specifically Lóng, or the Lindwurm like Wyrms. Even a four limbed dragon would have been fresh, D&D is responsible for a lot of the chauvinism about Dragon anatomy in the world.

The Legendary Dragons book by Jetpack7 have some pretty neat artwork.
