Not from 5e, but in 3.5e, the rules were too complex for me and my 13 year old friends little eager minds, so we basically run the game ignoring stuff like conditions and other complex mechanics of the system (try to explain flat-footed or how to grapple in 3e to a teenager wanting to kill dragons for the first time ^^').
It was a simpler and less crunch heavy experience that really helped me get into the game and it's one of the more memorable sessions I've ran - even if it was completely "wrong".
True, I misread the initial post due to the way it's worded, but you could easily extend what I wrote to something that fits. Like, I do enjoy playing DnD without much combat despite it being designed as a system with a heavy focus on combat.
Don't worry, you're just one of the latest victims, but many more have gone through that route.
Don't mean to call you out, just having a laugh of how many people engage this thread that way.

Humans don't read anything BUT the title and this thread is one of the many proofs.
