so when can you multi-class? can you be a lev 1 bard/ lev1 monk? what about saving throws? do you then get proficiency in dex cha(bard) dex( not doubled) str (monk)? so you would have dex str and cha in saving throws? thanks
The Basic Rules have a whole section on multiclassing which you can read here. As a rule of thumb throughout D&D 5e, if it doesn't explicitly say you get something—be it a saving throw, weapon proficiency, and so on—then you don't get it.
When a character levels up, it takes a level in a class. Most of the time, you take a level in the class you are already in, so that your character level and class level are the same. However, there is always the option to take a level in a class you are not in. That is multiclassing. So you can’t multiclass at a minimum until level 2, at which point you could have 1 level in class a and 1 level in class b. Refer to the rules documents above about all other multiclass interactions.
thank you but this does not answer either of my questions... i already read this ...hence my questions
That link answers your questions. When you multiclass, you do not take every proficiencies your new class would have granted as starting from level 1. The new class grants you only the proficiencies stated in this section. New saving throws proficiencies are not gained when multiclassing.
