I’m trying to make a discord server, but I have no idea what I’m doing. Does anyone have any advice? It’s for PvP duels, arena battles, and team fights. I know it probably already exists, but I can’t find one, so I’m making one. Can someone help?
Starting a server is pretty straightforward with the app or on a PC. Just hit the plus sign icon on the left and create your own. You don't really need a template.
You can create separate text channels for different purposes, if you want, which is handy if you want to keep things like dice rolls or teams separate. When you invite your players to the server, you can assign them roles. This will allow you to tailor which channels they have access to. So if you want Player A and Player B to only be able to see their own fight channel and no one else's, you can do that by adjusting the permissions for those roles that you create.
For dice rolling on the server, you can add Avrae and use those commands. You can also add a DDB campaign to your Discord server and use the character sheet dice roller. This post gives you a concise overview of that. I even think Avrae syncs with your character sheet, now. It's pretty slick.
Hopefully this gives you a starting point. Discord can be a little daunting for the uninitiated, but if you poke around a bit, you can make it work for you without too much hassle.
