I'm trying to make a custom magic item that goes off of DEX, has a +4, and does 7d8 damage. It is a spear, and trying to get the 7d8 to show up is giving me some difficulty. I can put it in as a custom action, but I can't change the to hit bonus in that situation. Is this even possible to accomplish? Thanks in advance!
Unless something has changed since I was creating homebrew items roughly a year ago, there wasn't a way to increase damage done, above the base weapon's damage die. The option to do so is there, but it's only a placeholder and doesn't function. Because there are no official WotC magic items that do so. Even on the character sheet, the only thing you can do is increase the to hit bonus and guaranteed damage. The closest you can get is writing deals 7d8 damage under notes when you customize your item on your character sheet. So that you remember that it deals that much damage.
