MotM slightly modified the elven Trance ability to allow them to choose new proficiencies upon completion, but it is only listed under the subraces listed in that book. I'm wondering if this will eventually be applied to all Elf sub-races, as up until now Trance has been universal amongst them. Anyone have any insights or information?
Seems likely. Before, it showed up in UA with some astral-elf-related lore explanation, but there's no such explanation here. Seems like it's a universal elf thing.
Though the existing elves might lose something to make room for it.
The existing elves would need to lose Weapon Training, I'm pretty sure. The Trance proficiencies would work as a replacement for that. And remove the Magical Sleep Immunity from Fey Ancestry since that's with the new Trance version. If you want, you could homebrew each PHB elf subrace to do this, meanwhile. But yeah we'll have to wait until 2024 for it to be official with PHB elves.

Hmm, maybe after Spelljammer is released, then. As, I assume, that is when Astral Elf will be added to the official list of races.
I think we'll have to wait until 2024 when WotC updates the PHB before it becomes official.

seeing as they're ousting VGM and MToF, yes. Yes it is. That language will almost certainly be in the 2024 books.
