It really is. I've pretty much forgotten how to play at this point lol.
This is me, to be honest. I do try to be a player in SOME games that I get into... but.. I can't help but act like an NPC that cheerleads the players hah. Trying to break that habit!
Exactly xD
I don't even know how to balance spells/subclasses anymore.
I mostly play paladins to pretend like I'm doing more than saying "I attack" because sometimes I will also say "I also smite". LOL

Right now I am kind of Hybrid DM'ing / Playing my character as well ... Playing with my other buddy .. We are having a BLAST! (learning together)..
We already have requests from others to join our party! I am actually taking some character sheets up to a party Saturday to disperse to the interested members!
Once I get a starters grasp, I am going to grow the party to 4-5 Players it seems .. THAT WAS QUICK! LOL!

That's awesome! Good on you. A lot of new players are scared to even think of DMing, but honestly, DMing is easy during game play (YMMV based on players). Its just the between space that can feel stressful between planning or not planning, planning too much or too little, not having a good enough grasp of what the players want until a few sessions in even with a sesh 0. It can feel overwhelming. My biggest tip is -- let go of the anxiety the best you can. The players are the ones who fill in the time via decision discussions or taking their turns in battle. Knowing I only need to plan a vague outline of ongoings and having gotten pretty good at making shit up -- life has been easier these last 4-5 years LOL

Thanks for the tips -- you're absolutely right! it's the players story just as much as the DM's ...
I can't wait to share more stories / adventures :)
