I mean, technically Athas has already been mentioned in 5e: PotA has an appendix laying out how to adapt it to Dark Sun, and the legacy Genasi race also specifically talks about Athas. It gets namechecked elsewhere as well, but we never got anything out of it.

I don't think that is a sign one way or another. If we see Psionics playtesting for the core rules, that would be a good sign.
I doubt they'd get anywhere near psionics in the core rules. The core of 1d&d seems to be refinements on what already works, rather than building whole new controversial systems. It's telling that there is no psionic spell list to go with arcane, divine, and primal in the playtest document.
Does the mention of Athas in the Halflings section of the One D&D playtest mean that they’re gonna do Dark Sun eventually? What do you guys think?
