I recognise that it's early days yet with only one platest released, but going from what you have seen so far, how do you think you'll deal with the changeover? Are you going to go whole hog on 1D&D? Not change at all and just keep 5e? Do 5e and adopt a few things from 1D&D? Or adopt 1D&D and carry over a few things from 5e?
What are you going to keep? What are you going to take from 1D&D? What are you going to ignore? Why?
Personally, I'm going to go hybrid, which will be my base depends on what they actually put into 1D&D. A lot of the character creation options I think I'll keep from 5e, I'm not sold on the new ones, at least in terms of races. I quite like the new backgrounds though, so I'll probably use those. The new method of criticals... I'm ambivalent. I like getting inspiration. I'm not a fan of autosuccess on nat20s, I prefer to be able to have them roll on certain things and let the die tell how bad it went. This will cause arguments if they get a nat20. I'm also not sold on spells losing crits, given how little the feature effects things overall.
If you're not willing or able to to discuss in good faith, then don't be surprised if I don't respond, there are better things in life for me to do than humour you. This signature is that response.
Impossible to say right now, the first rough UA is out for not even 3 days... I will observe and give feedback to WOTC, as much as I can. However, the direction seems promising.
I agree with Voras. There really isn't enough information yet to make a decision, but I do like the general direction. I think the Character Class UA is likely to have a larger impact on my perception of the next "edition" of D&D. Monster changes (if any) would likely be the next big factor after class design.
Eliminating crits for monsters , feats at first level, and the increased availability of inspiration tell me everything I need to know about the direction that the "not an new edition" edition is going.
