So, playing last week and we were joking about finding an auctioneer. Our resident pun-master immediately said "An...ORC-tioneer?" and after customary groaning, my brain started working. If I was to create a character based on that pun, how would it work? I've been spit-balling ideas around for a couple of days but was wondering if anyone had any ideas?
What are they auctioning off? Are they murder hobos?
I think the idea of intimidating people into bidding higher might be funny too; not because they're actually mean, but because that's just the orc way.
Are they an orc who auctions regular things, or are they a person who auctions orcs? If you prefer the latter then I would suggest a lawful-evil non orc ranger, specialised in hunting and capturing orcs then selling them into slavery at impressive prices. Persuasion skill required to convince buyers of the orc's merits as a slave or minion.
See, a person auctioning off Orc's never occured to me. I had in my head the people from Antiques Roadshow, but as an Orc, but a slaver could be an interesting concept. But I think as an NPC rather than a PC: that feels like it would cause WAY too many problems
I have no idea what they'd be auctioning, but I guess baubles or something like that? Stuff that isn't worth much but he makes people think is valuable.
I was thinking of the friendly super mutants from Fallout. If your players are the type to attack any orc they see, you're going to need to be very careful about where your orc is, or what they're wearing that marks them clearly as an NPC that can be talked to.
A player of mine told me that he had an orcish rogue that, rather than having high stealth, intimidated people into keeping quiet about having seen him. It'd be just as funny to have one convince people he was more charismatic than he was. Have them start hearing about this amazing seller, he could sell socks to a purple worm or something. It might be a good way to get rid of trash your party has.

You could try doing something like:
-Orc
-Charlatin
-Max Cha.
-Bard (For convincing and charlatan-y stuff)
And other things an auctioneer would have...
That could work, just the idea of a charismatic Orc Bard already brings the funny.

I like that idea. I like it a lot.
