Is it ... an Asian monk? Or a European monk? I mean presumably it's neither, but then is the ... culture he or she comes from more Asian inspired, or more European inspired? Or, for that matter, some other real world equivalent.
Is it a guy monk or a girl monk? Or some other monk?
Is it a kenku monk? An orc monk? A halfling monk or a aasimar monk?
Now I find myself wanting to play a kenku monk. I should do that. If I did, his name would be Trill. He'd use a quarterstaff, obviously, and wear a wide-brimmed straw hat. Black robes. With red trim. I'm tempted to say he'd be a crow? Ooh, I have a pocket pick that I'm quite simply not going to tell you :p

Blanket disclaimer: I only ever state opinion. But I can sound terribly dogmatic - so if you feel I'm trying to tell you what to think, I'm really not, I swear. I'm telling you what I think, that's all.
Xanathar's Guide to Everything has whole charts of names based on class, culture, and much more. Page 175 I believe?
Several years ago, there had been a games accessory firm called Judges Guild. They published at one point a guide to archaic names, along with a list of archaic names for occupations. A butcher might be a Kell Hogg, a leather worker might be a Tanner. I do not know if this guide is still available, though.

I played a mercenary fighter. Named him Elas Rof. Backwards that reads For Sale.

Tommy Oliver?
