I feel like dnd beyond would benefit by having a way to organize your characters, like maybe the ability to make folders to put them in or something like that
The character screen already allows you to sort by Date Created, Date Modified, Name Alphabetically and by Level. It also allows you to search inside your collection. This seems robust enough to me. What sort of folders or other organizational functionality do you think would improve on this?
While I agree, that would be awesome, I think they're worried about people handing out their password to their friends and putting characters into folders based on user.
Sure, I'd love to just have a folder for "Dumb pun characters" and "First Level Generics" and "Cinderella 20's", but they'd probably see a lot more abuse.
To be honest, I'm not sure that's a big factor. If you're willing to share accounts like that, unless you're talking really large numbers of characters, a lack of folders aren't going to put you off. Even with large numbers of them, it'll just encourage a couple of extra accounts, maybe. The Master Tier subscription would be much more open to abuse.

If you're not willing or able to to discuss in good faith, then don't be surprised if I don't respond, there are better things in life for me to do than humour you. This signature is that response.

I tend to doubt it. I think it's more likely that the number of people, even those with paid subscriptions, who have enough characters to find it useful is really small.
I think the character system could be better organized--maybe it does not need to have the ability to customize your categories, but having some striation other than "all your characters" would be helpful.
Personally, I think four distinct categories would be fine--akin to how campaigns have two categories for active and deactivated campaigns. I think (1) active characters--characters presently being played by the user--(2) prototype characters--characters that are in the building stage/are complete but have not been played--(3) archived characters--characters from past campaigns that are no longer being used--and (4) DM NPCs--NPCs with character sheets built by DMs--would be sufficient and cover most different categories folks would want to use.

You can already create folders of characters using My Campaigns. My Campaigns section is literally just a collection of folders for characters.
But I do agree that it would be nice to have the folder system in My Characters section too.
