I am very interested in starting my new campaign as an echo knight because I think the play style would be very fun, but the party I am with does not have much in terms of support. Would it be smart to have my echo knight be multi-classed with a cleric? I was thinking upgrading mostly the fighter then once I reach about level 5 start dipping a level or 2 into cleric (either life or grave since they offer buffs to healing spells from the get-go). Would this be feasible, and if so how would you suggest leveling up from here?
What level is the campaign starting at? If you're starting at level 1 (or honestly even level 3) waiting until you hit level 6 to do a dip feels like a long time to wait if your intention is support. It might be better to instead take a background that gives you access to some healing, or a feat that does the same. Also, support vs healing and somewhat different roles, are you interested in healing specifically? Because that is easier with 5e, it's mostly about getting people back up before they die.
If you want to go the combat medic route (emergency healing only), you don't necessarily need cleric levels. The Healer feat is actually pretty strong and helpful for the party, though it does require you to use your action to heal someone. Still, an action to heal a downed ally and then Action Surge to attack is a nice combo to have in your back pocket if you still want to be a martial main.
