Charisma refers to force of personality, strength of self etc. Those things tend to translate to effectiveness at social encounters, but they also make you effective at drawing on magic that is intrinsic to your being like sorcery, or infused there via pact.

Can someone explain why Charisma is a spellcasting ability? I thought it was used for social encounters.
