In some countries, RPG's already enjoy this sort of protection and identification. In Sweden for example, board gaming, miniature gaming and RPG's have been identified as cultural developments and you can get government grants for starting social and cultural clubs gaining various financial benefits. If this movement catches on in the EU however, it will be a major development in he hobby. In the EU anything dubbed "art" gets tremendous protection much like in architecture where anything dubbed "historical site" does.
The only issue however is that unlike in the Nordics, in the EU everything takes years to execute on. Like if they start now, it will be 2033 before anything goes on the books. EU is sooooo slow to catch up with modern trends.

It's that we are many countries that we have to agree, and any decision ends up being moving an elephant. The paradigmatic case is the summer/winter time change. Years ago it was decided that it was going to be eliminated from the European Union, but we do not agree on the time that each one will have. And there it is, rotting in a drawer.
Now, it's also true that as stupid as it sounds, sometimes the most irrelevant topics are the ones that get approved the fastest. Basically because by not interesting the upper echelons, it is much easier for the MEPs to reach an agreement. So maybe we'll see this approved soon. Who knows.
In one corner, you have the #OpenDND movement; in the other, you have a multinational corporation.
I am not being facetious when I say I am beginning to wonder whether those still siding with Wizards know what Wizards are doing is wrong but just can't admit that they were.
It's not just wizards. Looking into the past few years, from youtube, meta, activision blizzard, twitter and many more. There is a huge issue with current executives in many companies. Most of them headquartered in the US and promoting this destructive behavior between each other.
I believe if you would cut down on most of the executives in most companies, things would improve for customers, employees and investors.

This is true.
To quote one of the worst companies that are guilty of this... "This is the way."
WOTC sells its products all over the world, so I don't know why you're surprised that places other than the U.S.A. might have games companies which want to avoid any newer version of the OGL.

I can't tell if they just want to be contrarian and argue on forums, and this is a way to do it, or if they genuinely think that Wizards should be entitled to anything they ask for just because. I've known fanboys that operate like that; it's like they never even really think about the thing, they just want to immediately do what was asked of them by their obsession. Whether it's Marvel or K-Pop or whatever, they only side with the powers that be and never objectively think about anything, their side is already pre-determined and any thinking that happens is only done to try and bolster that side of the argument. Like the idea they even could be wrong can't even enter the cranium because if they were wrong, then their Obsession is wrong, and that simply cannot be!
IDK if there's any Wizards of the Coast / D&D fanboys that are that hardcore about it, but maybe if they think D&D, the community or spirit of it, is what they're defending - not so much a billion dollar corporation - then I could see them going hard for Wizards in a sort of... Misguided white knight crusade.
Like of the people saying they insist Wizards should update the OGL and we should all just accept it, most of them just seem to insist that Wizards has the power because they own the IP - none of them have moral arguments, like Wizards should do this because X moral or ethical reason. They're really stuck on just a very basic idea that Wizards owns it, and because Wizards own it they can do literally anything and everything they want with it. Like if they wanted to change the name to Dinguses & Doofuses, they'd be siding with Wizards because... well, it's their IP and they can do what they want with it! That's the level of thought I'm seeing in terms of 'why', which is the barest of bones imo.
edit: and I think they're stuck there because it's literally the only leg they can stand on. There's no other decent argument on why it should change, not one that I've seen or thought of anyway.

It's officially gone international.
