We are leaving OGL 1.0a in place, as is. Untouched.
We are also making the entire SRD 5.1 available under a Creative Commons license.
You choose which you prefer to use.
all good, but the trust has been lost, so I will continue to boycott WotC/Hasbro, I will continue the use of #DnDBegone, I will not come back to D&D. Also Pathfinder 2e is a fun and pleasant system. So I have no reason to come back anytime soon.
Untouched means 1.0a will remain intact for D&D SRD 5.1 but D&D 6e will be released with no OGL or a very restrictive one. Wait and see.
And they have every right to do that. As they did in 4e and it went wrong. If they do, the community will decide. But they have all the legitimacy to put the One D&D SRD in the license they want, and with the restrictions they want. Then it will be the consumer who will decide if he is interested in that product, or not.

I don't think so, color me optimistic. I think Hasbro saw the writing on the wall, and won't risk their most profitable brand to public scrutiny again. 6e will ikely be more open than planned because of all of this.

This is truly great news. But it's too late, so much dissatisfaction with 'the brand' now and well PF2e has always been better, people have given it a try and they might not come back.
The PF2e has always been better part of your statement shows your true colors and hard to take your statement serious. Pathfinder 2e is a fine system, but it is different and crunchier and that is not for everyone. I prefer 2d20 system over Pathfinder rules. I won't assume this means everyone is going to go leave to play that.
Of course to early to check everything, but if this stands I'll return. After all I do want to play this game and do want to create stories with players and DMs. Damn, I just tonight deleted over 100 characters in preparations for my subscription running out...
Considering this change, I've reactivated my dndbeyond.com subscription.
I understand OneD&D might be under a different license. That's a different story, but you ended up doing the right thing here at the end. I imagine it will cost you in the long haul. But hopefully you will learn in the long run.
People don't seem willing to accept that there was literally never going to be a "New, Improved and Secured 1.0a". With WotC's/Hasbro's current mindset, it wasn't remotely a real possibility; we're talking a 0.00001% chance of happening, less than the chance of those wanting it being struck by lightning.
Leaving 1.0a untouched was the best possible outcome regarding that license.
As long as they don't find a way to screw us over, then we won.
If this turns out to be what we want, I will re-subscribe to DDB.
They literally can't. They published the SRD on Creative Commons. Everyone said they don't trust WotC and wanted someone else to own the license. That's exactly what they did. What more does everyone want from WotC, holy cow ...
While this is good I sure hope people dun rush back just because of this, its better to let WotC see that it takes a bit more then just going back to start. Cause that would just indicate they could pull more or less anything without much of a fallout (yes I know there is fallout from this but ya get what I'm getting at).
Agreed, this is great news and the step that the community wanted. It is therefore not "a" step, but "the" step. For 6e/OneDnD there will, most likely, be a new OGL, but that is being adressed as well. If WotC wants to get the community to move to the next iteration of DnD, they simply need to make it better, and if they do, the future OGL will not be a problem.
I will naturally keep my master tier subscription.

It's clear at this point that some people's goal was to kill WOTC for reasons that had nothing to do with the OGL or 3PPs, and thus nothing WOTC does will be satisfactory

Since 1.0a is remaining "untouched", does that mean that wotc can simply try to un-authorize again it at a later date, since the word "irrevocable" was NOT added?
They released it under the CC-BY-4.0, which is even less restrictive than the OGL 1.0a, and IS ABSOLUTELY irrevokable.

We have won. It's time to bury the hatchet.

What is the 5.1 SRD? Is that different from the 5E SRD?
Canto alla vita
alla sua bellezza
ad ogni sua ferita
ogni sua carezza!
I sing to life and to its tragic beauty
To pain and to strife, but all that dances through me
The rise and the fall, I've lived through it all!
Yes. This is going to be a problem for WotC. I do hope they have learned from this debacle.
Same thing based on this: https://media.wizards.com/2016/downloads/DND/SRD-OGL_V5.1.pdf
It's the current 5e SRD (not sure the difference between 5.0 and 5.1, it was changed years ago).
Then why are you still here?

It's the most up to date version of the 5E SRD.
It has some minor changes, it's been up for about 3 years as well. So 5.1 is on 1.0a already.

Urr... if they release it under a license you find objectionable, there's an easy solution at that time: don't buy it.
