They didn't say the 1.2 OGL wasn't going to happen, just that they weren't going to try and revoke 1.0a and slightly expand what would be included in CC.
All the other stuff about policing content producers and being uncompetitive against VTTs wasn't mentioned so it is safe to assume they still plan on doing that with 6e.
And we were all told at the beginning (2004) that OGL 1.0 would be irrevocable. Yet, Hasbro still tried to legally loophole their way out of it.
Yes, the immediate damage was halted. But there's stil going to be long-term damage to the trust of the community in WotC/Hasbro that isn't going away anytime soon. And ORC is still proceeding.
They said a policy wasn't needed for VTTs in the context of OGL 1.0a and the CC 5.1 SRD, but if course the real reason is they cannot do it with the 5.1 SRD anyway because it isn't a thing for CC content.
Still weasel words limited to 5e and prior content with no clear statement on what they will do with 6e. If they really switched based on feedback they would announce that 6e will have a SRD that is released under CC. That would show they get it and plan on being consistent in the future.
Can we get all the 1.2 topics closed, or archived or something? :)
Why? People are still interested in discussing it.

The CC-BY allows re-users (creators) to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material in any medium or format, so long as attribution is given to the creator. The license allows for commercial use.

In my opinion, it comes down to what 6e is. So long as they use the same base that 5e does (same 6 stat points, same terminology, still using dice) then, in my opinion, 1.0a provides enough cover that wizards shouldn't be able to take over the entire industry using their pocketbook hammer. If they don't want 3rd party help/contributions, then 3rd parties will do their own thing and 5e will likely live a long and prosperous life. I don't really see that as a big deal. Their stuff is their stuff. The thing that really scared most people was that the content in the SRD was so generic to start with, that them clawing it back was literally a declaration of war and intent to sue people over concepts that they didn't invent/don't own/aren't theirs. Ideas like how to move tokens around on a grid field or use a piece of paper to track life points, or how to tell a story.
Wizards needs to know that that stuff is not controllable. If wizards wants to publish an SRD 6.0 under a different license, that's fine. It might even be better in some ways, since they'll be able to put stuff that is 'less generic' into that document. Stuff that's totally theirs, stuff that they intentionally withheld from the SRD and would never even consider putting in something like 1.0a. Not really sure why anyone would have a problem with that?
The only way they can kill VTTs is to make a better 5e one... and/or make 6e incompatible, lock it behinds a separate license and make a 6e version that is so amazing, everyone stops playing 5e VTTs

*sound of CEO taking notes and mumbling* OK, so make 6e incompatible, and lock it behind a separate license. Check.
If a guy is strangling my kid, and it takes a room full of people to stop him, that guy doesn't get to say "see you at the BBQ on Sunday". We're all supposed to shut it now because they posted their 1/4 of the rulebook of their 5 year-old ruleset a handful of months before they release a new one?
We should be asking them every week until the end of time about their plans for VTTs to make sure that they don't pull any of this poop.

Even if this happens, it can't end the VTT's that are out there.. they would all be 5e...
The D&D 5e SRD (5.1) is now under CC. You can use the entirety of that SRD in any format, and without even the OGL restrictions of not referencing things like D&D or Mind Flayers or Beholders. If 5e is what you care about, it's very over.
OneD&D will likely have its own SRD, and that may be published under another OGL - but even if it is, you can just make and use CC 5e content anyway.

Not with the 5e SRD though
They said weren't continuing with a VTT policy.
They don't really lock old threads. If you're no longer interested, best bet is to unsubscribe. It's under the tools button, top right.

VTT's can use SRD with CC license

You could just ignore it….

My comment was said a bit in jest.. but that being said.. 1.2 does not exist anymore, only the sad negative emotions behind it.
Why still talk about something that no longer exists, except to fuel the flames of negativity?
The party who has shown nothing but bad faith for the last month said something on twitter so that we don't boycott their movie. How is this over?
Also, I don't see anything about stopping their quest to kill VTTs which are infinitely better than their non-existent one.
Final agreements signed. Then it's over.

All they have to do is... Make a good product?! Jesus Christ how terrifying
