When I cancelled my subscription, my note to Wizards was that I would not be a subscriber so long as there were plans to deactivate the OGL 1.0a. Since Wizards has reversed course on this, I am keeping up my end by re-subscribing.
I am glad that Wizards has gone even further with putting the SRD 5.1 into the Creative Commons. And, while I think the people responsible for the OGL fiasco to begin with have shown they are not the right people to be planning the future of D&D, I'm not going to insist that they must be fired. However, if different leadership is not put into place, it is difficult to see a good future for D&D in the coming years.
I unsubbed due to the disrespect, the 1.1 & 1.2 had not been confirmed at that point. I will not return past closing out some of the victory celebration and a few additional posts. WotC lost my trust, and lost my faith. I will only come back if they earn my money, and at this point I don't see that as possible any time soon. Maybe in a year or two, maybe never. If they want my money they will need new leadership at minimum.
Honestly I'm still catching my breath. I think the answer is yes, but it's going take some time and a pattern of behavior to bring back any semblance of the trust that used to be there. I respect that they're doing the right thing. That calls for acknowledgement. But it doesn't mean we should forget we had to fight to get them to do the right thing.
I am very pleased with the outcome! Im really happy that a lot of people (myself included) will be spared a lot of headaches and broken hearts. I’m glad so many voices in the community were heard and listened to and I hope we can put this all in the past. I hope the other companies will also continue their work making their licences and I hope it helps to create many open gaming options that empower creativity and cooperation.
I am on the fence about this one as I do like the tools on this application. However, I can't trust the Executive Leadership Team that runs WotC and Hasbro. They are a multi-billion-dollar corporation that gives little consideration to the people that pour money into their coffers. The Executive Leaders at WotC and Hasbro should know that their investors are watching and waiting for them to make them money and by pouring my money into their monetization of the game I grew up on is a bitter pill for me to swallow. I will buy the books when needed. However, I, as a DM will continue to write my content for my players going forward. Using the DnDBeyond site was a convenience only and not a necessity to play the game I love.
I don't need to have a VTT to play my game. I don't need to spend wasteful amounts of money on tools that could be used to hurt the game and hobby I love. I am not wasting my money on any system that purports to be the next best thing since sliced bread. Having a VTT is a nice to have and not a necessity to play my TTRPG. WotC and Hasbro will never understand the community that supports their games. These companies were never really caring about that in the first place. They only cared about the money that we the community brings to the table.
WotC and Hasbro you have lost this community's trust and confidence in your leadership. Until you show us that you care about this community - which you are slowly trying to do with today's announcement - we will always be watching. We will always be vigilant. We will protect our community . . . OUR GAME!
Unfortunately the poll is not broad enough for me to be able to respond. It's far more complicated than a yes or no answer for me. On one hand, I love the character creator and being able to share my content with my players, however, with the recent lack of.... good content*... and until I am able to see how these changes effect the community as a whole, I can't see myself resubscribing.
*The fact that I need to take older content, even as far back as 2nd edition, to make a good campaign setting for 5th edition content such as Dragonlance and Spelljammer to name a few is highly disappointing. Not to mention this fiasco with the Dragonlance Preorders not being shipped out or being shipped with the wrong components as in my case. Until i see better content with better quality control, I find it hard to even trust them these days.
Not right now, but if they release something I'm interested in and I've got the time and group to play it I'll renew. I'm very happy with their latest move. Sure, I don't trust their management, but I do trust that they learned something about the community and to not take us for granted, and I know for a fact that there's good people at wotc that can produce some cool games. So for me this whole drama is over and I'm ready to get back to business as usual.
I'm resuscribing BUT let's see what happens with OneDnD... Either they make It not backwards compatible, or they create for OneDnD a new OGL, the boycot will be huger than this one.
Huzzah! Thank you so much for listening to all of us. I re-subscribed as soon as I saw the news. I make a minimum of 3 characters a day, just to mess around. I missed doing that. Let's never fight again. I love 5e. Probably still won't be transitioning to Oned&d, but that is because 5e is the best system for me. I spent a lot of time and money on 5e because it is the system I like the best. Honestly, I watched a bunch of videos on how to play pathfinder and... no thanks.
Good luck with the virtual tabletop thingy. I'm sure I will end up watching people play with it on youtube.
Still think the concept of subscribing to a book is dumb.
I sub so I can share the book with all the people I play with in my campaigns. Even back in my 1e, 2e, and 3e books there was always one person (normally the GM) who bought all the books the players could use and shared them. It keeps everyone on a level field no matter the financial situation in a way more fun then banning everything everyone didn't buy would.
With this new update I am good with staying on dndbeyond and WotC (for now unless they screw it up again).

Trust has been broken. The future of D&D no longer lies under Hazards' stewardship.

I'm waiting for everything to be finalised but as long as they deliver what they have promised I shall resub.
i'm waiting for the dust to settle for a few days. i will come back if nothing unexpected happens.

My subscription was set to cancelled.. but I always paid annually. So it's not deactivated until around the end of march.
This is time for me to wait and make sure that they keep up with what they said and there is no deception.
It's not unlikely I will resub as long as they stay the course and don't screw up.

Waiting for 6 months, going to play alternatives for now to see how things are in half a year.
I'm overall satisfied so I've reactivated my subscription.
I will probably be selective in my purchases in the future and try to get more 3pp content but maybe I'll get the Dragonlance book.
It's good to be back.
