I`m currently level 2 Paladin of Helm and have been reading up on the Oaths at level 3 and just wondering which oaths suits a Paladin of Helm. My paladin has a soldiers background and is a loyal bodyguard of a Noble(who is a warlock).
I`m leaning towards the Oath of Vengeance, but im very new to this so im looking for some advice.
Depends mostly on the aspect of your character being a Paladin you want to focus on.
Vengeance -> you want to focus more on the vanquishing of evil mission, seeking it out wherever it might lurk (this might, depending on the case, take you to have second thoughts on your Warlock employer, depending on who his/her patron is);
Conquest -> Order (yours or your God's) must be maintained at all costs and all shall recognise the Order you profess as the only true one; this one is the more extreme take on the Paladin quest, and it often leads the character to veering quite heavily in Lawful Evil territory, imho;
Devotion -> this is the most classical "knight in shining armor" take on the Paladin, taking from the "Paladin can only be Lawful Good" days of old, focusing on the search for truth, justice and the upholding of the highest moral standards;
Redemption -> these Paladins believe everyone can be saved, and have a tendency to always try to redeem every evil-doers they might come across, and resort to violence only as a last resort;
Ancient -> never really looked too much into this one, to be honest, but as far as I get it these Paladins are champions of Good for Good itself, not necessarily for believing in justice or the will of higher beings;
Crown -> this is, in my view, the other side of the Conquest Oath, firmly believing in order and law, but also in sovereignty and service for the good of everyone, striving to do their best to do the right thing within the boundaries of their knight order or otherwise the desires of a just ruler; they are perhaps the most noble Paladins within civilization, as opposed to the Devotion ones who tend to err on the idealisation of superior beings (Angels, Devas etc);
I personally believe that the Oath of the Crown might be the most appropriate for a Paladin of Helm, but in the end it's a choice that it's mostly personal, depending on what you want to show of what you think a Paladin should be.

For your (and your DM's) reference, the Oath of the Crown comes from Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide, while the Oath of Redemption and the Oath of Conquest come from Xanathar's Guide to Everything

First off. Congrats on being a Paladin because they are just badass and one of my favorite classes to role play. :)
Secondly. What made you choose to be a Paladin of "Helm"? Just curious. :)
Thirdly. Personally, I tend to favor the "Classic" style Devotion Paladins with their sacred weapons and their distaste for all that is unholy. But if your DM doesn't plan to create many undead/fiendish encounters than this Oath is definitely not as useful. However, I have also enjoyed playing a Crown Paladin very much. As far as Oaths go it's really up to your play style and how you want to role play your character. But since your deity is Helm I would also recommend Oath of the Crown over the others since it's easier to create a protection build (more fitting to your God choice) paladin with spells like command, compelled duel, spirit guardian... etc. If you want to be a super Tank in your group you can even take on the "Protection" fighting style.
Hope that helps and good luck on your adventure! :)
The DM gave me a choice between Helm, Tyr and Torm(I think). Helm seems to suit my character and me better. I'm very new to playing D&D so I put some of my own personality in the character.
I've already encoutered undead and currently have a necromancer as prisoner (while stopping one of my teammates from killing him )... Anyway, the oath of vengeance suits my personality but i think more me than my paladins, the Devotion Oath is way too goody goody. I think everyone is right with Crown to suit my Paladin better.

i didn't realize there was more oaths, only 3 are referenced in the PHB. thank you for clearing it up.
The Crown does sound more like my character. i`ll have to speak to my DM.
thanks again.
No problem, always happy to help :)
